Karnataka Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar Injured in Car Accident Near Belagavi
Karnataka Women and Child Development Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar met with a road accident early Tuesday morning, January 14, 2025, near Ambadgatti while traveling to Belagavi. The accident occurred after she attended a late-night Congress Legislative Party (CLP) meeting in Bengaluru.
Accompanying her was her brother, Chennaraj Hattiholi, a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC), who suffered head injuries in the mishap. The accident, which happened around 6 a.m., involved their car veering off the road and crashing into a tree.
Driver Swerves to Avoid Dog, Resulting in Crash
The police revealed that the accident was caused by the driver’s quick decision to swerve in order to avoid a dog that appeared on the road. This sudden maneuver led to the vehicle losing control and colliding with a roadside tree.
Despite the crash’s severity, the car’s airbags deployed, reducing the impact on the passengers. “The safety features in the vehicle played a vital role in preventing major injuries,” said an investigating officer.

Both Minister Hebbalkar and her brother were rushed to a private hospital in Belagavi immediately after the accident. While the minister sustained minor injuries to her face and waist, her brother required attention for head injuries.
