Samajwadi Party’s Rajya Sabha member, Jaya Bachchan, has opted out of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Communications and Information Technology, a panel chaired by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey. The decision comes amidst ongoing reshuffles in parliamentary committees, aiming to align members with areas of their interest and expertise.
With this new development, Bachchan will now serve as a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Labour, Textiles, and Skill Development, which is chaired by Basavaraj Bommai, the former Chief Minister of Karnataka. Saket Gokhale Takes Over Bachchan’s Role in IT Committee
In a corresponding change, Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Saket Gokhale has been appointed as a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Communications and Information Technology. Gokhale, who previously served on the Labour Committee, is known for his vocal advocacy on social media and policy matters related to technology and governance.
As a member of the IT panel, Gokhale will now be involved in discussions and decisions surrounding India’s growing digital infrastructure, cybersecurity policies, and communication technologies. Apart from these shifts, the bulletin issued by the Rajya Sabha Secretariat also announced several other key changes. Rajya Sabha members A A Rahim of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and R Girirajan have moved from the Parliamentary Committee on External Affairs, chaired by Shashi Tharoor, to the panel on Housing and Urban Affairs.
Furthermore, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar has nominated Sanjay Kumar Jha of JD(U) and Dhairyashil Patil of the BJP as new members of the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Water Resources.
